Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
