Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in 882 Days
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
It is his first trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of that year.
Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced service.
He fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.
The opponent rescued four early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
