The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

The bans were enacted on Tuesday on a former EU commissioner who helped draft the EU’s digital governance law, as well as several activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
