2K Recruits Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Comes After Poor Reception

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a more defined direction.

The president stated that the team is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the complete text from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to mind and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our audience.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of the game in the weeks to follow.

David

Experience of the New Head

The appointee currently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a public demo. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch states. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that change every match. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an announced release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as creation continues.
